Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to MC-Status ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our Minecraft server status checker and server catalog.

2. Information We Collect

We collect minimal information to provide our service:

  • Server Information: The Minecraft server IP addresses and ports you submit for ping checks
  • Geolocation Data: The approximate country and city our hosting provider derives from your connection when you check a server. We do not store the IP address they were derived from with the check or on the server's record. If the check creates a record for a server nobody had checked before, that country and city are saved on that server's record, and the country is what groups it in our public catalog
  • Usage Data: A random visitor id generated in your browser and sent with a heartbeat while you have a page open, together with the pages you open on our site, your browser, operating system, device type and the user-agent string they come from, your interface language and country, and your account if you are signed in
  • Account and Sign-in Data: If you sign in with Google, GitHub or Discord, the name, email address and avatar that provider returns. Each sign-in also creates a session record that stores the IP address the request came from and your browser's user-agent string

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and maintain our Minecraft server status checker and server catalog
  • To improve and optimize user experience
  • To monitor and analyze usage patterns
  • To detect and prevent technical issues

4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies for:

  • Essential Cookies: Required for the website to function properly
  • Analytics: To understand how visitors use our site
  • Advertising: We use Google AdSense to display ads. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our website or other websites

5. Google AdSense

We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google AdSense uses cookies to serve ads based on your visit to our site and other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.

6. Data Retention

Status checks are not discarded. For every server in our catalog we store what each ping returned — player counts, protocol version, MOTD, latency and whether the server answered — as a timestamped record, at most one per minute, and we keep that history for as long as the server has a record with us. It is what the uptime and player charts on a server's page are drawn from.

A check is not filed against the person who ran it: the stored record holds nothing that identifies you. The one exception is the country and city described above, which are saved once, on the record of a server nobody had checked before.

Visit records — the heartbeat data described above — are deleted 30 days after their last activity by a job that runs daily. No IP address is kept with those records, and clients that identify themselves as bots are not recorded at all.

Signing in stores an IP address. Each sign-in creates a session record holding the IP the request came from and your browser's user-agent string. It expires seven days after it was last refreshed — refreshed at most once a day while you keep using the site — and it is deleted when you sign out, the next time your browser presents it after it has expired, or when your account is deleted. The daily sweep above does not cover these records, so one left behind by a browser that never comes back stays in our database until it is removed by hand.

7. Third-Party Services

We may use third-party services including:

  • Google AdSense for advertising
  • Vercel for hosting and analytics
  • Sentry for error tracking

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:
